- ADJUSTED THE AUTODIM SETTING (POWER MANAGBECAUSE IT DIMMED THE DISPLAY AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE OF INACTIVITY)
-VERYIMPORTANT ISSUE REGARDING HARD DISK POWER MANAGEMENT CAUSING POTENTIAL PREMATURE FAILURE.
BASICALLY YOU WILL NOTICE A FREQUENT SEQUENCE OF CLICKS FROM THE HARD DISK. THIS IS APPARENTLY CAUSED BY A DESIGN FAULT BY THE DISK MANUFACTURER WHICH MAKES THE DISK PARK ITSELF EVERY 5 SECONDS OR SO.
MOST DISTRO'S SEEM TO HAVE INTEGRATED A FIX FOR THIS IN THE POWER MANAGEMENT CONFIGURATION. UBUNTU HASN'T YET (DESPITE THE FAULT BEING REPORTED OVER A YEAR AGO).
THE FIX IS SIMPLE HOWEVER
IN A TERMINAL TYPE:
sudo gedit /etc/acpi/resume.d/99-hdd-spin-fix.sh
INSERT
#!/bin/sh
hdparm -B 254 /dev/sda
SAVE IT
NOW REPEAT WITH
sudo gedit /etc/acpi/start.d/99-hdd-spin-fix.sh
AND
sudo gedit /etc/acpi/suspend.d/99-hdd-spin-fix.sh
IT DID THE TRICK FOR ME

BASICALLY THIS IS AN EXCELLENT LAPTOP AND UBUNTU IS GREAT!
EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS FINE.
