Installing Ubuntu 7.04 i386 Feisty Fawn on a Compaq Presario C500

Super Multi 8X DVD R/RW with Double Layer Support	Works	No special procedure required during installation

This laptop is operating under Kernel version: 2.6.20-16-generic

Basic Installation of Ubuntu 7.04 i386 Feisty Fawn:

Installing was fast and without incident.
Used Vista's built-in partitioning tool to create partitions for swap and linux.
Used Ubuntu Live CD to easily and successfully install a dual boot system.
Later, re-installed Ubuntu, and selected option to use entire hard drive, wiping out Vista.
Post-Install modifications/tweaks required a little research to get the screen resolution correct and wireless working, but were quickly resolved by the ubuntu community.

This affordable laptop works extremely well with Ubuntu. I highly recommend deleting Vista (maybe getting a refund?) and going with Linux on this laptop.
