Hi,

I want to buy a notebook. I need it essentially for desktop replacement. I will use it for programing, watching movies and occasionally gaming. I would like that it is functional for at least 5 years, therefore I wanted to buy a core duo with 1G 1DIMM Ram taking in mind to update in a year to 2G. As I said I rarely play but I would like to have a dedicated video card that will support all cool new XOrg features that will come (transparency, 3D desktop, etc)
15'' Widescreen is a must. I also thought that the video card has to be nvidia, but I would like to hear what you think about. I haven't had good experiences with ATI cards in linux. At the moment I use my girlfriend's amilio 1437G but We can't watch movies in full screen mode using mplayer because it doesn't support xv output.

I have in my list the Dell Inspiron 6400. But I don't like the ATI card. Maybe the intel 910 would be good enough with a little bit more RAM memory. But I am not sure.

I need to buy it outside the USA. However if you know a model in USA I would like to hear about it.

Suggestions?

Alvaro
