Just wanted to post a tip for anyone trying to install linux on a Sony Vaio a617m.
I have tried to install any version of linux(Suse 10, Fedora Core 5, Sluackware 10.2, Kubuntu, Ubuntu, etc..) but i always receive the same message "Unknown monitor" and then it is not possible use the installation in graphic mode.
After the installation in text mode I can listen the typical sound of access but the screen is always black. From console 1 I tried to select other monitors running yast 2 but this last does not allow me to change anything. Finally, I didn't find on the sony vaio site drivers for my monitor for linux. Can someone help me?
