hi everybody,
i tried installing linux on my notebook on my hp dv5020us notebook but i faced a strange problem while installation... i booted from the cdrom... after detecting the hardware ..... the screen went blank .... thn i tried my luck with a live cd ... and i faced the same problem...

can anyone help me out

Kanotix has both 32 and 64 bit distros -- (read the dos so that your install is in the desired language ;-)

For both Mepis and Kanotix the live CD is the install CD

If you still get the black screen try a parameter to load a different video driver for X

In Mepis you can add a boot param on the GRUB panel on the line that usually ends in vga=791 (cursor will be there)

xdrvr=vesa
xdrvr=fbdev
xdrvr=i810

have you tried disabling acpi? on the command line when installing you should be able to type in the following:

linux acpi=off noapic nolapic

Also check the hp site for a BIOS upgrade.

If one is available it will help.
