The hard drive on my (LinuxCertified) LC2410CE recently broke, just after I backed up all of my personal stuff onto CD. I replaced the hard drive and have used the three Redhat CDs to get Linux 9 mostly running on the new hard disk. Seldom can I get it to read a whole CD so it's frequently painful. After letting the CD drive sit extended for ten minutes it usually continues for longer. (So that's one problem.) I do have Xwindow logins working and fairly normal operation. I hope I don't need to reinstall everything from the CDs.
I have been unable to find out exactly what hardware is on the laptop so I have not likely installed Red Hat completely correctly. (That's the next problem.)
My main questions in that so far relate to pixel dimensions on the screen, mouse type, and internet access. (That's the next problems.)
For the printer, my greatest immediate need, when I switch to LPRng and do an lpq I get the message "Get_local_host: hostname 'localhost' bad." When I switch to CUPS and do an lpq I get the message "lpq: Unable to contact server!" (That's the next problem.)
Leads on solving any of these problems will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Kay
