I keep trying to install Fedora core 4 on my HP SE L2000 and it locks after formatting the drives. I see several people have gotten this very distro to run on the l2000 with few problems but oddly none mention the problems I seem to be having. Any ideas?

Go to HP site, get BIOS upgrade
I'm running triple boot, Mepis, Windows, and Kanotix-64
(I also tried Ubuntu-64, have not tried FC4)
I did have minor problems installing -- I was booting with noapic nolapic until I did the BIOS upgrade -- I'm still using no_timer_check ignore_ff_buttons=PWRF acpi_sleep=s3_bios as boot options
Also see this page on Compaq V2000Z Ubuntu installation (Compaq V2000Z is the same as HP L2000) https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportMachinesLaptopsCompaq

I have already upgraded the bios. did not seem to help. Other than that it seems to detect almost everything on install (from what I can see wizz by). Going to try a live cd and see if it can boot that.

Don't use fedora then. Try ubuntu or kubuntu (what I run)....you might want to try suse 10 too....but i've had nothing but problems since redhat spun off fedora.
