i've been looking for a long time for a laptop that would simultaneously fill my needs and maintain maximum compatibility with linux. my search has led me through all the major OEMs and third-party vendors in the US and Canada, and i still have yet to find my ideal system. maybe i'm being too pedantic? :)

anyway, i'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction as to which company might be able to meet my specifications.

I'm looking for an AMD Turion 64 system (ideally the MT-series) with a 14" WXGA or SXGA display (minimum 1280x768 resolution; i like my screen space). now, normally, this isn't too difficult to find: there are a lot of Turion 64 14" laptops around. the CompaQ Presario V2000Z comes to mind. (i've seen it first-hand and it looks to be quite a nice system despite the company's reputation for "quality".) unfortunately, the Presario has a Radeon XPRESS 200M video system. as a programmer, hacker, and 3D graphics nut, (not to mention gamer) that's darn near unacceptable. i'd prefer to have a GeForce Go solution. unfortunately, GeForce Go-based systems seem to be few and far between, and the 14" variety doesn't seem to exist anywhere i've looked. (S3 and SiS are entirely out of the question!)

so now my questions:

is anyone aware of a Wi-Fi-ready Turion 64 14" notebook with a GeForce solution?
while i'm not hot on the idea of using XPRESS, i am aware that the kernel and X.org drivers do support limited 3D capability and the R200 driver is the only one that Xegl runs on (which i'm anxious to play with; i have some ideas for writing a WM for Xgl). so, how well does the R200 driver work with the XPRESS series, and how well does the R200 driver handle gaming and intensive 3D applications? (modelling and animation and so forth.)
what OEMs and retailers are there in the US (or Canada) who sell Turion 64 systems without an OS? (of the few i've found, i've yet to see a 14" Turion 64 system.)
finally, what options might you guys suggest? my requirements are mostly open for amendment with some notable exceptions.

to reiterate and clarify:
i want Turion 64 MT parts primarily for the low power consumption. if the newer Pentium M parts are 64-bit and 65nm, i may reconsider my position, but i'll need to do some research first.
14" may seem arbitrary, but i have a number of concerns that it addresses: i suffered a back injury some time ago, so weight is a huge factor to me. every ounce counts. also, 14" WXGA and SXGA (and WSXGA?) have a decent resolution that smaller displays (notably 13" and 12") just don't have. i don't want 15", but if there are some that are as light or lighter than 14" systems at a reasonable cost, i may consider them.
i'm not concerned about the wireless card; all that matters is that there is a mini-PCI, cardbus, or PCMCIA slot i can use. if there's a broadcom mini-PCI installed, i can just replace it, for example. but i would like to have a Wi-Fi solution installed and still have an external PCMCIA/Cardbus slot open.
as i mentioned, i'd prefer a GeForce Go solution, but if someone can give a compelling case for or against it or anything else, i may be open to other chipsets.
i'd prefer 9- or 12-cell lithium batteries unless something longer-lasting is available. mobility is everything here. :)

so, please, commence with the suggestions! :D
