I hope that you will be able to do something with this info:

I just attempted to install Linux on my Averatec 3700 series laptop. I just
wanted to let you know that it does not even boot up. No help from Averatec,
either.

I don't really want to create a web page dedicated to a computer that does not
work, but on the other hand, I want to put out the word that people wanting
to run Linux on a laptop, should not buy Averatec.

Thanks,
Chuck Tilbury

I just installed Linux on my averatec 3700 with no problems. I now dual boot Windows XP and scientific Linux 4.2 (built on Fedora core). Still need to get the wireless working (ndiswrapper), and config x for better resolution, but I am happy with this laptop so far. I could find no other ultra light laptops anywhere near the price.

I've had many distro's on this machine.
You may have to use cheat codes, but they all will boot on it.

With PCLinuxOS .92, I did not need cheat codes to boot, but I did need them to get my USB ports recognized.
The page below helped me with that. Google it. I don't know how to link it.

Ubuntu Forums > Ubuntu Breezy Badger 5.10 > Installation and Upgrade Help
USB IRQ Issue - Temporary Fix

PCLinuxOS recognizes the built-in ralink wireless card as ra0, and you are auto-connected at boot by default.
The liveCD is also an installer. This is the most ready to go distro to run on these machines. It has many other advantages worth checking out.

That said, I do have one big unsolved problem with it.

So far I have not been able to get it to suspend/hibernate.
When I was setting it up for that, it immediately went into
a comma, now showing a brief error that ra0 received a suspend request every time I try to reboot. (but the liveCD still works)

If someone knows the correct settings to suspend/hibernate PCLinuxOS on the Averatec 3200, we will have the ultimate killer combination.

I have Gentoo linux perfectly running on it. Video, sound, wireless. Etc. Love the size and price of laptop.
