Hi all,
i am a newbie to Linux environment. I own a sony PCG-R505JS with windows XP installed on it. To say the least i don't like windows that much and i want to install Linux fedora core 4 on it.
The problem is this computer comes with an external docking that holds the cd/dvd rom. This peace is broken and i cant get it to work neither i want to spend money to fix it.
I also have a Toshiba external DVD drive that i want to use to boot and install the system from it. I tried going to the BIOS to change its configuration to make the computer boot from an external USB dvd rom but with no luck at all. (i don't see in the “boot” field any option for a USB thing!!!)
please experience people help a newbie come a part of your environment.

One option is to see if you can put the disk drive in another laptop, install fc4 on it, and then put the disk back in your sony...

yes, thats what I meant. If you can't get the usb optical drive to boot, that is one option.
